In early 1968, the Chevelle® was America's "most popular midsize car." The SSTM 396 was a high-performance model with a base price of $2,899. The top-of-the-line 6.5-liter engine had 396 horsepower. More than 60,000 vehicles were produced in 1968 in a wide range of models, including convertibles and station wagons.
