Best for your skin – sunscreens and self-tanners
Do you want your skin to glow with the healthy warmth of the sun? In reality, sunbathing isn’t good for your skin, even if a tan looks beautiful. Choose the best sunscreen for your face and body, and you can enjoy the sun safely. You can also get a healthy-looking tan from the store shelf— a good self-tanner doesn’t cost a fortune, is safe to use, and helps you achieve a great result that lasts!
Good prep work guarantees the best result
Set aside time for using self-tanner. The best result comes from good preparation: ideally, your skin should be exfoliated and evenly moisturised. On dry skin, self-tanner applies unevenly, so moisture is the best way to prevent patchiness. You can apply body lotion well in advance of using the tanning product. Hair removal should be done at least a day before applying self-tanner.
Self-tanners are sold in different forms: a self-tanning cream, foam or spray can all achieve the desired result, but it depends on your personal technique which one is best for you. You can start by trying a self-tanning moisturiser, for example—it’s easy to apply and the shade won’t be too strong right away.
The best self-tanner for face and body – tips for success
Because self-tanning product only adheres to the top layer of the skin, regular exfoliation is essential for a good result. Without exfoliating, the product will still stick—but only for a moment. In a few days the tan becomes patchy and messy. So dead skin cells should be removed before tanning.
After exfoliating, you need to take care of hydration. Don’t apply moisturiser right before using self-tanner; do your skincare routine preferably a day in advance. There’s no need to coat the entire body in lotion—focus on dry areas that tend to absorb product more strongly, such as knuckles, elbows, armpits and ankles. When tanning these areas, apply a little less product than on the rest of your body.
Shower before using the product, but don’t apply deodorant or any other base products to the skin. Apply the self-tanner in gentle, circular motions—don’t rub harshly. Use a tanning mitt, otherwise you’ll be washing your hands constantly. Just remember at the very end to apply product to the hand that was inside the mitt too! Let it dry well on bare skin, and after that stay in loose loungewear for a while before showering.
