Padel Rackets

Padel rackets – choose the right racket for your level!

Padel is an established racket sport whose court and rules combine elements of tennis and squash. Padel rackets, however, differ significantly from tennis rackets because they don’t have a string bed. Instead, the perforated hitting surface is typically made from carbon fibre or other lightweight and durable synthetic materials. Padel rackets are commonly divided into round, teardrop-shaped and diamond-shaped models. In recent years, padel has become a real trend sport in Finland as well.

The structure of a padel racket makes playing easier

A padel racket consists of a head and a handle. The maximum overall length is 45.5 cm, and the handle length is 20 cm. The maximum width of the racket head is 26 cm. The head contains holes about 10 mm in diameter, which lighten the structure and reduce air resistance.

The hitting surface is typically made of two harder synthetic outer layers, such as carbon fibre, and between them there is usually a light, porous rubber core that adds elasticity to shots. Thanks to this structure, padel shots don’t need to be hit as hard as in tennis. Padel balls are similar to tennis balls, but they are less pressurised, which makes them slower than tennis balls.

The shape of the padel racket matters

Padel rackets can be divided into three categories: round, teardrop-shaped and diamond-shaped. The shape of the head affects the racket’s balance point, which influences how shots feel and perform.

Choosing a padel racket is worth doing based on your level of experience. A round racket has its balance in the centre, making shots relatively slower and easier to control. This slower pace gives the player better control of the ball, even off-centre hits come off smoothly, and the feel remains consistent. A round racket is an excellent choice for beginners or senior players.

A diamond-shaped racket adds more power and efficiency to your game, but in return offers less accuracy and a smaller sweet spot. That’s why diamond-shaped padel rackets are better suited to more experienced players. Teardrop-shaped (drop-shaped) rackets combine features of both round and diamond models. They offer the advantages of both, making them especially suitable for active players and competitive play.
