EXPED Ultra 8R LW is an ultra-insulating sleeping bag designed for winter expeditions, arctic conditions and adventures where there is no room for compromise. When the ground is deep ice, the snow cover is thick and the nights are long, the Ultra 8R offers maximum warmth, stability and reliability - in a surprisingly lightweight package.
The LW size adds length and width, making it ideal for taller users or those who want more room to move without compromising insulation. This is a sleeping platform for serious winter use, with every detail optimized to perform in extreme conditions.
The platform is built with SynMat Plus Technology™ construction, where recycled Texpedloft™ microfiber insulation is laminated directly into the air passages for smooth and effective insulation. An added reflective thermal layer maximizes warmth without increasing weight or package size. With an ASTM-tested R-value of 7.9, the Ultra 8R is designed for extreme cold and works great on snow, ice and frozen ground.
The Ultra 8R LW is 9 cm thick and features EXPED's Comfort Cradle™ construction with larger side channels for added stability and to help keep the body centered on the platform all night long. The three-dimensional baffle construction reduces cold spots and creates a stable, comfortable sleeping surface even when temperatures drop well below freezing.
The cover fabric is made from recycled 20D ripstop polyester with durable TPU lamination and is bluesign® approved, ensuring a durable yet lightweight construction for demanding expedition use. The chassis is equipped with EXPED's FlatValve valve for fast and controlled filling and emptying, even with gloves on. The included Schnozzel Pumpbag allows for efficient inflation without allowing moisture to enter the platform - crucial for extended winter use.
Despite its superior insulating properties, the Ultra 8R LW is relatively lightweight and highly packable, making it a sensible choice for winter hikes, polar expeditions, alpine touring and cold base camps. A sleeping platform that clearly represents EXPED's philosophy: maximum functionality, minimum surplus
