The Evella Murphy fold-away bed is a space-saving miracle for a small studio flat, a holiday cottage, an office, a guest room or a child’s bedroom. It brings the open, spacious versatility familiar from Instagram and interior design magazines to a space where a bed is needed but you don’t want it to take up floor space.
The cabinet is just 35 cm deep and, when closed, is a discreet feature against the wall. To unfold the bed, simply pull the handle; a gas spring then cushions and eases the bed’s descent onto the floor. The legs extend automatically at the same time, and the full-size bed is immediately ready for use, unlike a sofa bed.
The sturdy bed frame is made of steel and the flexible slats of wood. The cabinet frame is made of laminated MDF, whilst the other parts are made of fibreboard. The cabinet is fixed permanently to the wall; in partition walls, it is secured with wall plugs, and in concrete walls, it is anchored to the wall. Installation on brick walls or other lightweight wall structures is not recommended.
An identical top cabinet is available to fit on top of the bed, which can be used to store bed linen or pillows. The bed can be fitted with a mattress up to 17 cm thick or a combination of a 15 cm mattress and a duvet, which are held in place using a strap when stored.
