The Blood Bowl board game, based on the popular Warhammer game universe, has been played in many different versions since the 1980s. Blood Bowl 3 is based on the latest rules of the game, so it's even easier to start it even for new players and those stuck in the game series. At the same time, old Blood Bowl veterans feel at home, because based on the old rules, even the modernized rules are easy and quick to internalize.
At the core of Blood Bowl is a fast-paced and tactical team sport where you try to get the ball into the opponent's goal area by any means possible. The idea is similar to American football, but since it is a fantasy sport, the rules are looser and violent tackles are allowed. Tackles in the game develop into quite a few fights, because in fantasy sports, clashes are fierce and player injuries are common.
Although of course weapons are not allowed on the playing field, many teams do so regardless of the rules. In addition to various armor spikes, players can have horns, whip-like tails, or other special body parts that help in wearing down the opposing team or at least knocking the opposing player down. In addition, some players use prohibited weapons, which, if caught, threatens to be removed from the game.
Because the clashes on the playing field are fierce, various mass fights are often seen on the Blood Bowl field during the game. You can't avoid being booed by the crowd either, if a player is tackled off the field. Some teams rely on passing the ball and running through the opponent's defensive wall. Other teams, on the other hand, believe in a fast-paced throwing game and dodging opponents. Tactics vary drastically from team to team, and one team's method does not work with a completely different set-up.
Since it's fantasy football, the teams in the game are also exceptionally special. From the most common end, there are basic strong humans, agile elves and strong but slow dwarves. The green-skinned orc players with their giant goblins and wikkeline land elevators represent the more barbaric side of the teams. Undead players with special abilities, creepy chaos mutants and devious Skaven ratmen are more unusual than the teams.
Blood Bowl 3 combines match-level tactics and larger-scale strategy between matches. Fast-paced matches are, on the one hand, both exciting ball games and wild mass fights, the outcome of which is almost impossible to predict in advance. In addition to the single game, Blood Bowl 3 includes a fun multiplayer mode where the player can show off his skills against other human players.
