Lower temperatures help the seeds to germinate more reliably and vigorously and the cuttings to take root more quickly. After sowing, keep the miniature greenhouse, trough or pots with saucers on a heat mat until the seeds have germinated. The mat heats the soil to a maximum of about 29°C (the mat itself is slightly warmer than this), and the heat increases the condensation in the mini greenhouse. Ventilation must therefore be carefully controlled. Once the miniature plants have grown to a size of about 2-3 cm and the typical leaves of the species have formed, there is no longer any need for a lower temperature. At this stage, the seedlings need plenty of light to grow strong and vigorous, and the room temperature should be around 16-18°C. A heated mat is also useful, for example, when moving a small seedling from a mini greenhouse to a larger pot. The low temperature will speed up rooting and root growth.
