The need for vitamin C may increase in pets that are exposed to severe physical or mental stress, such as dogs that do heavy work, actively compete or dogs that react strongly to environmental changes. Illnesses or injuries can also increase the need for vitamin C. Guinea pigs cannot produce vitamin C themselves, so its intake should be ensured in the daily diet and, if necessary, a vitamin C supplement should be given.
