Hartmut Ortlieb began developing waterproof seams using his mother’s sewing machine in Nuremberg, in southern Germany. Later, the company’s headquarters and factory moved to Heilsbronn in Bavaria, where all of Ortlieb’s products are manufactured.In 1984, Ortlieb developed a seam-welding method, so-called high-frequency welding technology, which makes all seams on a product waterproof. Ortlieb products have a waterproof rating of up to 100,000 millimetres, which corresponds to withstanding extremely high water pressure for 24 hours.

Ortlieb has been a cyclist’s favourite for decades.
