The Lucina valance is made from 83% cotton and 17% polyester. The valance is finished with sewn sides and hem, and there is a rod pocket at the top for a curtain rod. The valance also has slots for hanging hooks. There is a gathering tape at the top edge. The pattern on the valance may vary depending on which part of the fabric it is cut from. The Lucina pattern, built from delicate systematic triangles, is the work of Ervin Latimer, who was chosen as the Young Designer of the Year in 2020. The hand-drawn geometric design was inspired by the form language and details of the lobby in Ervin’s 1950s residential building. The pattern is named after Lucina Hagman, the first chairwoman of the Women's Association Union and the founder of the Martta organization. The pattern celebrates determined and strong Finnish women.
