Carnosine is a naturally occurring dipeptide formed by the two amino acids alanine and histidine. It was found in muscle in Russia in 1900, and has been used as a food supplement since the 1930s. It has been studied scientifically in many different countries.
Carnosine buffers lactic acid and is excellently suitable for exercisers. Carnosine increases muscle performance and endurance, as it prevents the effect of lactic acid by keeping the pH of the muscles almost neutral. Carnosine also speeds up muscle recovery after a hard workout. Carnosine is not a doping substance.
