Tex is wounded in the shoulder and loses a lot of blood, and without food and water, together with Kit Willer, tries to resist the attacks of the redskins. When all hope seems lost, salvation comes in a guaranteed western style.
Already after a three-month recovery period, Tex returns to the path of adventures in the story Taikalu's Riddle. This time it's the fanatical Hopis (sons of the white bison) who are against it, but behind the Indians' criminal actions hides a scheming bunch of whites who are after the Indians' gold.
Much of the action takes place in the shadowy temple of the white bison, where Kit is being held prisoner. The third story of the volume begins when our heroes make a gruesome discovery: stagecoaches whose passengers have been brutally robbed and killed.
