Background information
The Vasa, named after the Swedish royal dynasty, was commissioned in 1625 under King Gustav II Adolf as the flagship of the Baltic Sea fleet. With a length of 69 metres and equipped with 72 cannons, she was one of the most impressive warships of her time. Over 700 gilded sculptures adorned the magnificent ship.
