Black cumin, or Ryytineito, is a flowering spice plant whose aromatic black seeds are full of valuable oil.
Black cumin contains no less than 100 bioactive substances, i.e. substances that have been shown in scientific studies to have health-promoting effects. Black cumin oil, or Black Seed Oil, contains, among other things, skin-protecting linoleic acid (omega-6) and a special essential oil called thymoquinone, which is considered to be behind the health-supporting effects of black cumin. The seeds also contain e.g. myristic, palmitic, palmitoleic, stearic and oleic acids, B group vitamins, calcium, iron, copper, zinc and phosphorus. This very nutrient-rich oil can be used internally as a food supplement, as cooking oil and seasoning, or externally for beauty care.
Nutritionally valuable, black cumin oil has gained a reputation as a beauty oil as well, thanks to its properties that protect and strengthen the skin's lipid layer, already in the time of Queen Cleopatra. Oil is believed to have been an important part of maintaining her legendary beauty.
Black cumin oil nourishes, moisturizes and protects the skin. The oil is recommended to be used especially for the treatment of dry, irritated and allergy-prone skin. - Black cumin oil can be used internally as cooking oil among drinks or salad or as a dietary supplement by taking about 2 teaspoons of oil a couple of hours before a meal on an empty stomach.
- The taste of the oil is refined, mild, but slightly peppery and bitter.
- Do not heat the oil, as heat destroys the oil's sensitive fatty acids.
- Black cumin oil is not recommended for use during pregnancy.
