The LUMIX S 24mm F1.8 consists of 12 lens elements in 11 groups, including three aspherical lenses, three ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lenses and one UED (Ultra Extra-Low Dispersion) lens. The use of three aspherical lenses enables both high descriptive performance and beautiful bokeh, benefits common to all lenses in the F1.8 series, and is suitable for all kinds of situations, including panoramas and wide-angle snapshots. UED and ED lenses are effective in preventing colour aberrations. The LUMIX S 24mm F1.8 is capable of smooth and quiet operation, which is compatible with the camera's fast and accurate AF system at sensor speeds of up to 240 fps. With the non-linear setting, the focal point changes by a variable amount depending on the speed of the focus ring rotation, with the focal point changing by a set amount according to the rotation speed of the focus ring in the linear setting. The sensitivity (i.e. the amount of change in focal point per quantum of rotation) can be set between 90 and 360 degrees with a 30-degree range to achieve the desired focal point action. The LUMIX S 24mm F1.8 also captures excellent video with a mechanism that prevents the fatal problem of focal point breathing, a problem that all interchangeable lenses designed for still images have. Professional-quality video is achieved by combining this with a micro-step dimmer control for frictionless exposure changes. The LUMIX S 24mm F1.8 is surprisingly easy to carry thanks to its compact size and weight of just 310g. The rugged dust and splash resistant design withstands use even in harsh conditions. The filter has a diameter of 67mm and features a 9-blade circular aperture diaphragm. Dust and splash protection does not guarantee that damage will not occur if the lens is exposed to direct contact with dust and water.
