Polyethylene (PE) is the world's most used plastic grade. Polyethylenes are divided into two main groups according to density - low density polymers (LDPE) and high density polymers (HDPE). The common properties of all PE grades are:
- lightness (density in all qualities less than 1g/cm³, i.e. all float in water)
- good chemical resistance
- wide operating temperature range -45 °C to +75 °C
- tenacity
- very workable and weldable
- wear-resistant slippery surface
- good electrical insulation
- economic
- The properties of PE can be modified, for example, by UV stabilization
