Herdins Genuine Stain is a powdered stain that is mixed with
hot water. It highlights the grain and structure of the wood. The product is translucent and also gives depth to the color.
It is recommended to varnish a wooden surface treated with Genuine Stain with Herdins Petsilakka to make the treated surface more durable after drying. Herdins Genuine Stain is available in 24 different shades, which can also be mixed with each other. The intensity of the shade can be increased or decreased by adjusting the amount of powder.
Instructions for use:
Mix Herdins Aito Stain Remover Powder with 1/4 - 1 liter of boiling water. Allow the solution to cool before applying.
Pre-treatment:
Wash the wood surface to be treated with water and sand lightly. Light and soft parts of the wood absorb the stain more than dark and hard parts. Therefore, spray a little water on the surface before applying the stain. For oily and resinous wood (e.g. pine), add a few drops of dishwashing liquid to the water.
Handling instructions:
The surface must be clean of dirt or paint residue. If necessary, fill in any holes with a matching putty so that as little of it as possible is visible under the translucent stain surface.
Always test the stain on a similar surface before applying it to ensure that the shade is the one you want. Apply the stain generously and always in the direction of the wood grain. Smooth the applied stain with a damp brush or sponge.
The wood should preferably be horizontal when staining. If you are staining a ceiling or wall panel, it is best to do this before installation. On a vertical wall, the staining should start from the bottom. This will give a more even finish. The wood often moves after installation. Therefore, also treat the edges and grooves.
Finishing:
Use solvent-based Herdins Petsilakka. Water-based stain may dissolve some of the dye and leave the surface mottled.
Drying time:
approximately 6 hours after application
Washing tools:
First wipe off as much of the stain solution as possible to prevent residue from getting into the drain. Finally, clean the tools with water.
Storage:
Store in the original packaging in a dry place. The stain solution mixed with water should be stored in a dark plastic or glass container (not metal). The mixed solution will not remain usable for long.
