How to clean your grill successfully
Grilled food is an essential part of the Finnish summer and holiday season. It’s a good idea to clean the grill after every use, but a more thorough cleaning is needed at the latest in spring before the grilling season begins. Cleaning a heavily soiled grill may sound like hard work, but with the right tools it’s not difficult at all. A well-cleaned grill stays in good working condition for a long time.
With Kärkkäinen’s online store you can clean both charcoal and gas grills effectively. A deep clean should be done either in autumn before putting the grill into winter storage, or in spring before the season starts. So remember to put grill cleaning high on your garden maintenance to-do list. You can get cleaning products and tools for efficient work from Kärkkäinen at great prices!
Kärkkäinen is the number one store for grill masters. In addition to grill cleaning tools, we also offer powerful gas grills, traditional charcoal grills, electric grills, outdoor kitchens and much more.
A grill should be cleaned right after grilling. Of course, that doesn’t always happen—when you’re sitting outside on a summer evening and chatting with guests, you may not feel like grabbing a scrub brush. Here are a few tips for effective grill cleaning:
Cleaning a charcoal grill
Clean the grate while the grill is still warm—ideally right after use. Brush the warm grate with a grill brush. More stubborn splatters and residue can be scraped off with a spatula. Grease that builds up on the lid should be treated with a degreasing cleaning agent and then wiped with warm water. Remove the ashes only after the grill has fully cooled down.
The bottom and lid of a charcoal grill are usually coated with enamel, which requires gentle cleaning with tools designed for this purpose. Otherwise, there’s a risk of damaging the sensitive enamel surface with harsh scrubbing.
Cleaning a gas grill
The grill grate should be cleaned after every use. Cleaning a gas grill is easiest if you keep the grill on for a few minutes after grilling—this burns off grease left on the inner surfaces and lava rocks. Scrape away dirt with a grill brush while the grill is still warm, as residue comes off more easily. A grill spatula helps remove burnt food leftovers and other stubborn splatters.
Remove grease from the bottom of the grill and the lid using a product designed for that purpose. After soaking the grease loose, finish by wiping with warm water. Wash the outside surfaces with water, soap and a suitable cleaning agent. Let the grill cool down before scraping dirt from the burners.
