Criollo Psyllium 1.8 kg bark powder for horses is a highly fibrous shell powder designed for sand-eating horses. This product contains 100% ispaghulan bark, which is obtained from the seeds of plantain (Plantago ovata). The peel powder swells strongly and binds 40 times its weight of water, forming a gel mass. This helps transport sand out of the horse's digestive tract and can also help with constipation.
The nutrients in Criollo Psyllium consist of moisture (8.0%), crude protein (5.7%), crude fat (2.3%), crude fiber (4.6%) and crude ash (3.8%). Dosing as a course of treatment, if necessary, usually lasts 5 to 10 days a month. For adult horses, the dosage is 40-50 g per 2 liters of water per day. Ponies and smaller breeds only need 30 g/1.5 litres of water per day and foals only 25 g/1 litre of water per day. A higher dosage should be determined as directed by a veterinarian.
The shell powder is mixed with water and allowed to precipitate before mixing with feed. We recommend splitting the dose into two feedings and ensuring that the horse always has access to sufficient water.
