The artist describes his work: I grew up by a small lake, and I imagined that the sea was big and dangerous, but in the last ten years I have started to explore the Finnish archipelago by kayak and fell in love with open water. A good paddling trip includes much more than paddling: day naps on smooth sun-warmed beach rocks, eating snacks on the pebble beach, reading a good book while waiting for the wind to calm down, camping, swimming, sauna...
The subject of my poster is Finland's lakes, rivers, seas and islands and exploring them by kayak. It features the standard characters of my cartoons, a mouse and a duck, the alter egos of me and my Husband (and travel partner) Christoffer Leka, and a bunch of other aquatic animals.
My good friend Tuomas Mäkinen was responsible for coloring the poster, whom I haven't been able to persuade to go on a kayaking trip yet. So this is a new work created for Come to Finland. We firmly believe that poster art must be made attractive and made available to new generations. Do you notice how Finland once again - through the means of poster art - attracts tourists with the help of glamor and shouts of joy echoing from paradise?
