Would you be interested in growing beans?
Bohnanza's idea cannot be said to be particularly attractive, but
Uwe Rosenberg, who is only known for his special card games, has managed to make growing beans interesting as well.
Bohnanza is a respected card game that everyone should at least try.
The game has no components other than cards, but they are of quite good quality. The cards depict different beans that can be found in many departures. The rarity and thus the value of different types of beans varies. The bean meter found on the cards tells you how many pieces of the said Papua are needed to get a certain amount of money. The money is cleverly implemented: the background of the cards has the image of a coin, the same cards are used both as money and as merchandise.
At the beginning of their turn, each player must plant a bean in the field. You may not choose a card, but it is the first card in the hand (the order of the cards in the hand may not be changed during the game!). There are only two fields (the third field can be purchased during the game) and each field can only be planted with one type of bean. The card has to be played and if it doesn't fit the existing fields, the beans have to be sold from the field - whether there are enough of them or not.
After that, the player turns over two new cards from the deck. At the end of the turn, you must plant these cards on your field, but you can also exchange them for other players. You can also attach cards in your hand to trades, which makes it possible to get rid of bad cards that you wouldn't want to plant on your field - sooner or later you have to, when they move forward in your hand. The busier the trade, the better the success.
Bohnanza is an almost revolutionary card game. It's really different and doesn't really resemble anything else. That's why learning it is a bit difficult. However, the learning threshold is exceeded in a couple of games and after that you can focus on furious trading. Not everyone likes shopping, but those who are more into shopping will definitely enjoy it.
Everyone should try anyway.
Bohnanza is a special card game experience that is well suited as a family game as well as for game enthusiasts. The humorous illustration of the cards makes playing fun, and trading is inevitably a very social activity. We highly recommend it!
