Cynara scolymus, or artichoke, is an edible plant, from which the bases of the flower whorls on the bud and the lower parts of the petals are used as food. Latva artichoke is also used as a tea and plant extract. The Italians have even made a liqueur out of it.
One of the active substances of the plant is kynarin, which is found in abundance in the leaves of the plant. That's why Alfred Vogel used exactly this part of the plant in his own Cynara extract.
