Vitamins support metabolism

Vitamins are protective nutrients that regulate the body’s metabolism and are essential for the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins, as well as minerals. Vitamins are obtained from food because the body cannot produce them itself. An exception is vitamin D, which the body can form when the skin is exposed to the sun’s UV rays during summer.

Vitamins are divided into two groups: fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins. Fat-soluble vitamins include vitamins A, D, E and K. Water-soluble vitamins include B vitamins and vitamin C. Water-soluble vitamins are not stored in the body very well, whereas the body can store fat-soluble vitamins for a longer period.

Minerals come from food

Minerals and trace elements are inorganic nutrients that are essential for humans. Because the body cannot produce minerals and trace elements on its own, they must be obtained from food. Many minerals and trace elements have several functions in the body.

For example, iodine is needed for thyroid function. It also contributes to the functioning of the skin and nervous system, cognitive functions, and the body’s use of energy. Potassium is needed for muscle and nervous system function. Potassium also helps regulate blood pressure.

Calcium is essential not only for bones and teeth, but also for muscle function and digestive enzymes, blood clotting, cell division and differentiation, and nerve transmission. Magnesium functions in muscles, bones and the nervous system and supports electrolyte balance. It also helps combat fatigue. Iron is needed for oxygen transport and the formation of haemoglobin. It also supports the immune system and helps you stay energised.
