Over 1000 KontionKynnen™ - unprecedented grip with the world's largest number of pins
The Kontio IcePaw is a new premium studded tyre, 100% designed in Finland, with 270 pins - KontionKynnen™ in size 205/55R16.
The Kontio IcePaw has the most pins in the world . The Kontio Icepaw offers unprecedented grip - the world record for the number of pins is now broken and safety is guaranteed. More pins mean better grip and less road wear. Despite the higher number of pins, the Kontio IcePaw is proven to wear less on the road surface.
Thanks to modern tyre technology, the Kontio IcePaw is quiet and provides extreme grip in the challenging winter conditions of the North, saving taxpayers money on road maintenance costs. The staircase between the tyre blocks has stiffened the tyre to improve lateral grip on asphalt and snow. The stairs hold the tyre's tread blocks tightly together, so that the tyre's road grip is optimised for cornering and evasive manoeuvres, with no wobbling or instability. The tyre's technologically advanced lateral sidewalls provide even more grip on snow. This ensures a stable driving feel and controllability.
First-class lateral grip is especially important when cornering. The premium steel-bodied KontionKynsi™ pin bites into ice like a sledgehammer. The Kontio IcePaw pinhole and its circumference are designed for the KontionKynsi for the best grip. The compatibility of the pinhole and the KontionPen, combined with the special pin, ensures a wet-hitting effect on ice.The KontionPen is a premium steel-bodied special pin, not aluminium like conventional 2-bladed pins. The steel body and 3-flute design gives the stud a better grip and prolongs the life of the tire while keeping the studs firmly in place. The small tip of the stud wears less on the road and bites better on ice.
Kontio Pure Ice™ is a special rubber compound designed for Nordic wintersKontio Pure Ice™ special rubber compound uses organic and environmentally friendly rapeseed oil to ensure that the tyre retains its excellent grip even in extreme frosts: the rubber does not stiffen but remains flexible. Flexibility is a guarantee of good grip, and rapeseed oil provides a better and more flexible tyre for winter conditions than harmful oils. Mathematical placement of studs on different lines using algorithms. The mathematical placement of the studs on 48 different lines optimises the penetration of the studs on intact ice. The placement of the pins is based on AI-enabled algorithms, which are used to analyse the optimal tyre grip.
The acoustically optimised tyre surface structure keeps the tyre quiet and comfortable to drive despite the large number of pins.By varying the order and size of the tyre blocks, a quiet and comfortable tyre is achieved.
Only the studs guarantee safety
The Kontio IcePaw studded tyre was compared in Lapland on the Test World test track. At the point where the Kontio IcePaw stopped at 100 km/h, the best friction tyre on the market was still travelling at 55 km/h and went a further 83 m further.
ON ICE, ONLY A PIN HOLDS
The Kontio IcePaw takes off like a cannon
In the latest Test World magazine test, the Kontio IcePaw was the tyre with the best ice grip of any studded tyre. It was beaten by the latest models from Nokia and Continental, among others. The Kontio IcePaw takes off like a cannon and doesn't get stuck at a junction.
